Causes and signs of infertility in females

The natural ability to have offspring is considered as fertility. Many couples would have difficulty in conceiving or face the problem of infertility. There could be varied conditions that will lead to infertility, and it differs for each individual.

 Infertility in female

Notice the signs

Irregular periods - normally, the menstrual cycle is 28 days long. As long as the cycles are consistent, it can be considered normal and regular periods. If at all a woman experience a varied change in connection with the cycle, then she might have irregular periods. This could be related to certain hormonal issues or PCOD, and both of them would cause infertility.

Heavy or painful periods - this could cause severe pain and lead to cramps. This could also be a sign of fibroids in the uterus or endometriosis, which is a risk factor for infertility.

No periods - at times, stress, climate change, food habits, and heavy workouts might make periods disappear temporarily. However, if periods get skipped for months, then, it is not a good sign; hence, checkup would be recommended.

Pain during sex - some women experience pain during intercourse, and it is not a good sign. This could be due to pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis.

Hormone fluctuations - certain skin issues, reduced sex drive, facial hair growth, thinning of hair, and gaining weight can be due to hormonal changes.

Vaginal soreness or irritation - at times, a vaginal infection could cause soreness and itchiness, and this, if left untreated, would cause other issues and finally infertility.

Causes of infertility in female

Damage in fallopian tubes - some of the pelvic inflammatory infections such as chlamydia and gonorrhea can cause a blockage in the fallopian tubes. Previous surgeries for pelvic problems that involve fallopian tubes might also cause infertility.

Age - it is challenging to conceive at an older age as the ability to conceive reduces. The quality and quantity of eggs would start diminishing around the 30s. The chance of miscarriage is higher as the women grow older.

Endometriosis – A condition where the inner lining of the uterus grows in other areas such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries, small or large intestine, and the walls of the abdominal cavity and pelvis. This growth and its surgical removal would cause scarring and prevent fertilization.

Cervical issues - a narrowed cervix or the lack of cervical mucus would make it difficult for the sperm to travel through the cervical canal into the uterus.

Unexplained infertility - At times, doctors will be unable to find the reasons for infertility. And this occurs for 10% - 20% of couples.

Female infertility can be treated with a few medications, laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, and IVF. At Kare Centre, expert doctors can identify and tackle the problem providing happy news.

Role of age in IVF

Age Counts
Age matters for conceiving a child, especially for women who are planning for IVF. A process of fertilization where the sperm and egg will be fertilized outside the body, in vitro under aseptic lab conditions. The fertilized egg will be transferred to the uterus for implantation.

Ivf

Infertility can be due to various reasons, from lifestyle choices to health issues and much more. IVF is one of the most successful treatments for infertility. A woman’s age plays a significant role in conceiving a baby and for IVF treatment.

What is the right age for IVF treatment?
There could be various reasons why women think about IVF and choose even when they are in their 40s. Block in fallopian tubes, failure in other infertility treatments, tumor or fibroids, irregular ovulation, endometriosis, and problems with sperm count can all become the reason for couples to choose IVF.

The quality and quantity of eggs reduce as a women’s age progresses. Not all the eggs will mature as it might have chromosomal abnormalities or genetic problems, and with age, it is a challenge to have viable eggs or healthy eggs. This could happen earlier for some women than in others. Women who experience premature menopause or who have undergone chemotherapy treatment will have issues to develop a healthy egg, or their eggs will fail to mature.
Women in their 20s and 30s would have the most successful rates of IVF treatment because of the viability of eggs. The reproductive organs of both male and female matters as it is subjected to a natural lapse with growing age. Androgens (male hormone) increases follicle growth and ensures that these follicles do not die. The absence or reduction of androgens will affect progressing eggs to a mature stage when they produce and release an egg.

As women grow older, the risk of having a miscarriage is higher. With age, there will be changes in the way cells develop. Sometimes the cells could divide abnormally and will cause some genetic issues or abnormalities. Certain children are born with down syndrome, and the reason for such genetic abnormality occurs with the age of women.

Risk at 40 or after 40
Women who conceive after the age of 40 might have serious issues such as:
  • Gestational diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Miscarriage
  • Premature delivery
  • Down syndrome
  • Low birth weight
  • Chances for cesarean delivery will be high
  • Problems related to placenta
Sometimes being healthy won’t be counted, as the age of a woman makes a huge difference, and age-related infertility may not slow down. Beyond 40 & 45, the risk would be higher if a woman has conceived. At Kare Centre, doctors provide the best help for women in terms of IVF treatment to help the couple achieve their dream to have a baby even at the age of 40.

The process of conceiving and giving birth to a child is usually a normal process for most of the mothers. But for a few, it comes with a lot of complications which is known as a high-risk pregnancy. Are IVF Babies Are As Normal As Other?

IVF is a blessing and has worked like a miracle in the last few decades for couples who were not being able to conceive naturally. This innovation is helping in the battle against infertility and has earned wide-ranged popularity across the world.

IVF Babies are as normal as other children

A common misunderstanding prevailing in society is that IVF babies are not normal. Some call them as test-tube babies as they are not the offshoots of a natural process of conceiving. Some say that IVF babies are artificial since they are designed in the cutting edge of laboratories. This falsehood is endlessly circulated among the ignorant sections of the society. The fact they don't realize is that IVF babies are as normal as other children. They too are naturally born. A proper awareness should be provided among the society in order to eradicate these myths.

Reality behind IVF pregnancy:

The ART technology that is used during IVF treatment stands for Assisted Reproductive Technology, not Artificial Reproductive Technology. In these cases, a doctor only helps to insert the embryo into the uterus through the cervix. Hereafter, the process of pregnancy is as normal as it happens after a sexual intercourse. IVF babies are healthy and the risk of any genetic disorder is also negligible.

In IVF, sperm from the male partner and eggs from the female partner are fertilized in a lab, under proper supervision. Instead of a fallopian tube, the fusion takes place in the test tube. This process of fertilization and fusion of eggs in the lab is an alternative to sexual intercourse. Once the embryo is produced through fusion in the lab, it is transferred to the uterus of the woman and then the whole process is the same as in any normal case.
